Modlist for Boss Miriam
About
This is a minimal, vanilla-friendly Morrowind modlist for OpenMW I came up with for my friend who wanted to get into Morrowind but was put off by some of its ancient Bethesda jank. Its aim is to provide:
- Modest graphical improvement without going overboard, and keeping performance in mind
- Quality of life improvements and bug fixes
- Preserved vanilla gameplay and story experience
Modlist
Mod | Description |
---|---|
Patch for Purists | A vanilla-friendly patch for Morrowind fixing over 9000 bugs still present as of Morrowind's last official update. |
Unofficial Official Morrowind Plugins Patched | An attempt to fix the many issues present in Bethesda's original Official Plugins. |
Bethesda Official Plugins Naturalized | Implementation of Bethesda's Official Plugins with some slightly improved implementation. |
Expansion Delay | This mod fixes Bethesda's overly enthusiastic expansion hooks by delaying the Dark Brotherhood attacks (for Tribunal) and limiting intrustive dialogue topics to a few NPCs (Bloodmoon). |
Beware the Sixth House (Sixth House Overhaul) | Makes the Sixth House the most difficult content in the game. |
Tribunal Rebalance | This mod rebalances Tribunal as if it shipped with Morrowind. |
Bloodmoon Rebalance | This mod rebalances Bloodmoon as if it shipped with Morrowind. |
Morrowind Optimization Patch | Greatly improves performance and fixes tons of mesh errors. |
Project Atlas | Reworks the most performance-heavy meshes in Morrowind to use more performance-friendly texture atlases. |
Graphic Herbalism - (MWSE and OpenMW Edition) | Harvested plants now change their appearance to show they have been harvested. |
Dynamic Distant Buildings for OpenMW | Fixes a bug in vanilla Morrowind where buildings which should appeat after certain quest stages are visible in the distance. |
Glow in the Dahrk | Buildings' windows glow with candlelight whem outside at night; inside, sunlight shines though windows during the day. |
Nords Shut Your Windows | Nord houses with window shutters now actially close the shutters at night. |
OpenMW Containers Animated | Containers (e.g., crates and chests) play opening and closing animations when activated. |
Weapon Sheathing | Makes unreadied weapons appear on the characters' hip or back for NPCs and the player. |
Familiar Faces | An in-depth yet completely vanilla friendly touch up of every head and almost every hair for diehard vanilla purists and people just looking for a decent upgrade to the old heads. |
Facelift | Some people have desired a simple enhancement of vanilla faces and hairs, so here you go. Facelift covers everything but beast races' heads (covered by Familiar Faces). |
Vanilla-Flavoured Hair - a Hair Mesh Replacer Mod | Vanilla-friendly hair replacer. Hairstyles actually make sense now, and the original textures shine bright. If you prefer hair to random nonsense, this one's for ya. |
Improved Lights for all Shaders | This mod makes comprehensive edits to every mesh used as a light source, so that light-fields are actually centered on the flames, smoke and sparks respond correctly to lighting, candlesticks are properly lit by their own flames, and stuff that should glow in the dark actually does so. |
Attend Me | Adds a follower HUD and automatic teleportation of your followers. |
Intelligent Textures | Replaces all textures in the vanilla game and its expansions with high resolution AI upscales. |
Title Screen and Logo Video Intro Reworked | HD Title Screen and Logo Video. |
Wide Screen Splash Replacer | Replaces the original vanilla splash screens, providing versions that are in 16:9 format for wide-screen monitors. |
Better Dialogue Font | A high resolution replacer for the 'Magic Cards' font, used in most of the UI, providing improved readability without changing the font size. |
AFFresh | A mod by Douglas Goodall (AKA 'Affa'), one of Morrowind's original developers, over 20 years after Morrowind's original release. It adds about 30 low-level guests, fleshing out things Affa was unable to during Morrowind's development. |
Djangos Dialogue 1.4 | Hundreds of new lines of text dialogue for all NPCs, which helps to remedy the repetition and dialogue fatigue that came with the original game. |
Great Service | Enables voiced dialogue for shopkeepers that were shipped with the original game but never used. |
Idle Talk | Adds over 200 new voice entries for NPCs, mostly using edited original voice files. |
Remiros' Groundcover | Adds groundcover to Morrowind – grass and shrubs that respond to the player moving through them and blow in the wind. |
DeltaPlugin (recommended) | For object and levelled list merging of OMWAddon/ESP files. Strongly recommended you use this. |

Locate your openmw.cfg
file (default location: Documents\My Games\OpenMW
). Search the text file for "data=", where you will find one entry: the location of your Morrowind install.
Add a newline below this, and paste the contents of Data Paths below.

) does not matter.

stomp intensity = 0
rendering distance = 6144.0
Once all three steps are completed, run DeltaPlugin merge
to generate the merged.omwaddon
plugin. Then, in openmw.cfg
add content=merged.omwaddon
after content=AttendMe.omwscripts
. Enjoy your vanilla+ Morrowind!

This modlist was based primarily on the 'I Heart Vanilla' and 'Just Good Morrowind' modlists curated by the MOMW team, with a number of my own personal preference tweaks. Its CFG Generator and the folder structure recommended by MOMW has also been the basis for the folder structure here.
